Student Leadership
Leading a club is the intersection between organising, teaching, and serving a community. It’s a space where you take a cause you care about, share it with people, and help others along the way.
What do they do?#
- Community: Club leaders are community builders. They show up, listen, and make sure every member has a reason to be there.
- Projects: They turn good intentions into projects with owners, dates, and outcomes. Fifty ideas don’t matter. Five finished projects do.
- People: They develop other leaders. A club that only works when you’re in the room hasn’t really worked.
What makes a great club president?#
- You love the cause more than the title.
- You listen before you decide.
- You give away responsibility, and keep accountability.
- You write things down, so the club survives you.
- You celebrate other people’s wins loudly.
- You’re kind, even when you’re enforcing something.
Suggestions#
- Ask members what they actually want to do, then do it.
- Hand out real ownership, not just tasks.
- Write a one-page handover for every project.
- Say thank you in public.
